Alma Mater on current issues of society and new technologies

Alma Mater Europaea is currently hosting the two-day 29th international conference, 'Society and Technology,' at the Zagreb Innovation Center.

The conference focused on the intersection of creative industries and artificial intelligence. Over 100 experts from 11 countries will present more than 50 scientific papers, embodying a rich tapestry of insights and perspectives.

In his opening address, Professor Dr. Ludvik Toplak, President of Alma Mater Europaea, underscored the significance of convening in Zagreb, a city steeped in centuries of academic tradition. He emphasized the imperative for scholars, educators, and industry experts to confront the pressing questions posed by emerging technologies. Dr. Toplak also paid tribute to the late academician Professors Juri Plenković and Mario Plenković for their invaluable contributions to fostering international collaboration among scientists.

Creative industries, vital for economic prosperity and cultural enrichment, are intricately linked with the burgeoning knowledge economy and the advancement of sustainable development. Notably, the surge in artificial intelligence research heralds a paradigm shift in how we generate ideas and approach work across diverse fields.

The conference serves as a platform for in-depth analysis, discussion, and presentation of the current trajectory of the creative industry sector, particularly within the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. It grapples with the nuanced opportunities and challenges arising from AI's proliferation.

Dr. Toplak's address further delves into the imperative of striking a delicate balance in a world of technological innovation. He highlights the need to uphold European values such as human rights, dignity, and democracy while navigating the complexities of modern society. An interdisciplinary approach, bridging natural, social, and spiritual dimensions, is deemed essential for reconciling the tensions between humanity and technological progress.

Moreover, the conference aligns with broader efforts to address demographic shifts and intellectual deficits, particularly in Central Europe. It champions collaborative initiatives at the European level, echoing support for establishing a demography agency to tackle these pressing challenges.

This international gathering symbolizes a fusion of expertise and dedication to unraveling artificial intelligence's multifaceted impacts on society, culture, and the economy. Acknowledgment is extended to the myriad partners and institutions whose collective efforts have made this event possible.

Distinguished speakers at the opening ceremony included luminaries such as Professor Dr. Miljenko Šimpraga, President of the Croatian Association of Innovators, and Maja Vidmar, President of the Association for the Protection, Collection, and Distribution of Phonogram Rights Compensation.

Alma Mater Europaea collaborates with esteemed institutions, such as the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb, the Catholic University of Croatia, and the Faculty of Graphics of the University of Zagreb, to orchestrate this seminal scientific event.
