3rd all Slovenian carnival get-together for seniors in Ptuj

On February 20, the 3rd all-Slovenian Carnival get-together for Seniors took place at Ptuj carnival, organized by the AMEU Social Gerontology students Lidija Minić (Bachelor of Social Gerontology) and Veronika Gorišek (Doctoral Student of social gerontology).

More than 600 visitors from all over Slovenia gathered for the senior carnival get-together. They were entertained by a diverse musical program, chasing away the winter and the carnival madness.

The seniors were joined by the mayor of Ptuj, Nuška Gajšek, dr. Ludvik Toplak, President of Alma Mater Europaea, Vlasta Nussdorfer and the Carnival Ambassador of the elderly, Dr. Aleksandra Pivec, Minister of agriculture. The visitors in particular enjoyed the visit of the master of photography and this year's Prešeren award winner, Stojan Kerbler, who also participated in the selection for the best masks. The best carnival masks were also richly rewarded with interesting awards.

AMEU students of social gerontology, nursing and physiotherapy, also participated at this year’s carnival, advising participants on how to take care of their health, safety in the home environment and invited them to take a free blood pressure test, sugar test and various strength, motor and balance tests. Students from the Faculty of Medicine presented a preventive program for screening and early detection of colon and rectum cancer - Svit. The pupils of the elementary school Ljudski vrt, however, came to the carnival together with their grandparents.

The organizers of the All-Slovenian Carnival hope that this kind of event for the elderly will become traditional and a constant within the framework of the annual Carnival (Kurentovanje) program in Ptuj.
