What does status for special needs and special status provide?
Students with special needs or special status are entitled to:
- adjusted implementation of academic obligations,
- extended deadlines for exams or assignment submissions,
- additional administrative support (tutoring),
- other accommodations in accordance with internal regulations and their study program.
Legal Framework
The Senate of Alma Mater Europaea has regulated this area through the Regulations on Granting Special Student Status and status for students with special needs, which define:
- the types of special status,
- the conditions for granting status,
- the required documentation,
- the rights and obligations of students with status.
Types of Special Status
Special Needs Student Status
- visual impairments or blindness,
- hearing impairments or deafness,
- speech and language disorders,
- specific learning difficulties,
- physical disabilities,
- chronic illnesses,
- autism spectrum disorders,
- psychosocial challenges.
Special Student Status
- categorized athletes and coaches,
- recognized artists and cultural professionals,
- students participating in (sectoral) international competitions,
- student-parents (until the child begins compulsory schooling).
Status Acquisition Procedure
- Submit your application via the VIS Information System, under the "Applications" tab.
- Attach valid supporting documentation, such as medical reports, official decisions, or confirmations from OKS (Slovenian Olympic Committee).
- Include a justification describing your specific circumstances and clearly state the accommodations you require.
- The application will be reviewed by the Academic Affairs Committee, which usually meets once a month.
- You will receive the decision via email or VIS.

Important: Athletes listed in the public records of the Slovenian Olympic Committee (OKS-ZŠZ) do not need to submit certificates – the Committee verifies the data directly in the record.
Recognition for Athlete-Friendly Education
Alma Mater Europaea University is a recipient of the "Athlete-Friendly Education" certificate for the period 2025–2029. Accommodations for athletes and coaches are available at all levels of study.
