A student of the Dance Academy became vice world champion

Mihael Tosić has been dancing for 14 years. His love for dance brought him from his native Dubrovnik to Slovenia to the Alma Mater Europaea Dance Academy. He recently became the world champion in tap dancing.

"At first, I was mainly involved in step technique, but at the same time, I also attended ballet and jazz dance classes. At that time, I only dreamed of performances and successes on big stages. I enrolled at the Academy of Dance to expand my knowledge of dance, upgrade it with a perfect technical foundation, and develop into a versatile dance artist. A tap is a form of dance in which footwork is the most important part of the dance. It is also a characteristic sound produced by hitting step shoes, like percussion," says student Mihael Tosić.

At the tender age of 20, he won the title of Vice World Champion 2022 in the category of small groups last November. "The competition was held in Velika Gorica, and among the competitors were the best tap dancers from 18 countries of the world. I am extremely proud of my achievement, which confirms that I am on the right path and, at the same time, is a reward for all the effort I have put into dancing so far," says Tosič gratefully. This is not his only achievement. He has had many awards, medals, and experiences in her dance career. "My biggest successes are Vice World Champion 2016 in the small group category, a bronze medal at the World Championship in 2017 in the duo category, 4th place in the solo category at the European Championships in 2019, and 3rd place at Supertalent in 2019," says Mihael. All award-winning choreographies were the work of his choreographer, Linda Valjalo, and world champion titles were won at competitions organized by the IDO - International dance organization.

With his efforts and work, he also won many scholarships for various festivals and events worldwide. "The most important recognition of this kind is the scholarship for the DC Tap Festival in Washington, which I attended in 2018 with ten friends, and we won," he proudly concludes. Even in the future, he will focus all his energies on dance and the new opportunities life offers him
