Alma Mater solemnly celebrated its 15th anniversary

Alma Mater Europaea celebrated its 15th anniversary with a festive academy event on November 30, 2023. A magnificent evening unfolded in the Frano Žižek Hall of Slovenian National Theatre Maribor.

"We've combined the experience and knowledge of centuries-old universities and scientists, connecting them with new methods and technologies in modern educational and research programs. Today, we look with pride at our journey and with gratitude to everyone who has trusted us in all these years, especially teachers, colleagues, students, and mentors," said the president of Alma Mater Europaea, Dr. Ludvik Toplak.

Over the past fifteen years, Alma Mater has developed into a full-fledged academic institution, offering education and research at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels in fields such as health, social care, management, humanities, archival science, arts, ecology, dance, and information technology, including artificial intelligence. We collaborate with many recognized global universities and involve top scientists and industry experts in our educational endeavors. Currently, we are in the process of transitioning into a university.

"Alma Mater embodies a unique story woven through dedication, heart, and unwavering support from our community, centered around the primary mission of 'It's About People.' Today marks a moment to look ahead with optimism and determination. Many new challenges await us—a dynamic future where cooperation, mutual trust, and adaptability to social and technological changes will be key. I am confident that with collective commitment and endurance, we will firmly establish an Alma Mater within the Slovenian and European university community," added Dr. Toplak.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the honorary president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Dr. Felix Unger, who highlighted that "Alma Mater Europaea transcends the boundaries of a conventional educational institution, united by a shared pursuit of academic excellence and a genuine commitment to shaping a brighter European future."

Dr. Peter Štih, president of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, also addressed the audience: "Alma Mater Europaea is a unique and therefore outstanding higher education organization, which, in the fifteen years since its establishment, has become a significant entity within the higher education sector in Slovenia. Its programs, mainly addressing educational deficits, contribute significantly to Slovenia's social development."

During the event, awards were presented to students with the best grades in the last academic year, and employees were recognized for their ten years of dedicated service and contribution to Alma Mater's development.

Mateja Berčan received praise for being the best-rated lecturer from the students.

"In a sincere display of gratitude and respect for the invaluable contributions, the employees of Alma Mater honored President Dr. Ludvik Toplak with a sculpture of Roman nymphs crafted by Andrej Gaberi. This sculpture symbolizes bridge-building, cooperation, and connection, encapsulating the spirit fostered within Alma Mater."

Tenor Tim Ribič, soprano Špela Pokeržnik, and academy trumpet player Leon Pokeržnik contributed to the refined artistic ambiance of the evening.

The festivities concluded with a dance production by Alma Mater Europaea Academy of Dance students under the guidance of Rosana Hribar and Lucija Velkavrh. The audience was transported into the world of the artist Pablo Picasso, who famously said, 'Everything we can imagine is real,' captivating them with tireless creative force and the power of imagination. They were accompanied on stage by percussionists Leticia Slapnik Yebuah and Vid Drašler.
