Alma Mater Strengthens Academic Cooperation with Kazakhstan


Alma Mater Europaea University and the Taraz International University, named after Sherkan Murtaza, are strengthening ties in the field of education and research in Central Asia.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the two institutions signed an essential memorandum of cooperation in Ljubljana, opening doors to intercultural, educational, and research collaboration.

In line with their mutual desire to enhance activities, the universities will develop joint projects, student and faculty exchanges, and promote research initiatives across various fields.

Dr. Barbara Toplak Perovič, Secretary General of Alma Mater Europaea University and Dean of the ECM Faculty, emphasized during the signing: “By collaborating with Taraz International University, named after Sherkan Murtaza, we are strengthening our presence and influence in Central Asia. This memorandum opens new opportunities for exchanging knowledge and cultural understanding, which will benefit our students and researchers, and enable deeper cooperation in a region strategically important for the European and global academic network.”

Yerbolat Baiuzakuly Saurykov from Taraz International University added: “Cooperation with Alma Mater Europaea opens new opportunities for us in developing education and research. Together, we will build a dynamic academic network that will contribute to the advancement of both our universities and regions.”

The institutions plan to implement a variety of programs and activities, including joint educational, cultural, and research projects; exchanges of students, teaching, and professional staff for research, lectures, and expert discussions; organization of joint academic events such as conferences, lectures, short courses, seminars, and symposia; exchange of educational materials, publications, and other information; and the implementation of special, short-term academic programs.

Recently, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, also signed a memorandum of cooperation. This step reflects both countries’ awareness of the importance of academic collaboration and strengthens international cooperation in the economy, science, education, and sustainable development.

The memorandum represents a significant step toward developing international cooperation and integrating academic communities in Europe and Central Asia.
