Digitalization in archival science is the topic of the 16th International Autumn Archives School

The Department of Archives Alma Mater Europaea – ECM opened the 16th International Autumn Archival School, which will be live and online until Saturday, December 3.

Archival experts gathered at Alma Mater in Maribor will discuss digital transformation topics in archival science, such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies, and other situations. "Digital transformation in archival science requires additional knowledge, scientific research, implemented procedures, and mastery of certain standards for the protection of archival material as the cultural heritage of all nations," announced IIAS coordinator of the International Archives School Peter Pavel Klasinc. He added that archivists asserted themselves in science with definitions and conducted research, where systematics, structure, and principles in the processes of scientific research work on archival material ensure the same results with the exact requests.

At the official opening of this year's international archive autumn school, the president of Alma Mater Europaea – ECM Ludvik Toplak, director of the International Archives School (IIAS) Grazia Tató, director of the historical archives of the institutions of the European Union Dieter Schlenker, Eric Ketelaar from the Netherlands and the director of the Maribor Provincial Archives mag. Nina Gostenčnik.

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research in archival science is strongly represented, which is reflected in the levels of professional terminology. This is related to the precise definitions of professional archival tasks, in which scientific and professional approaches are interweaving. "Recently, the introduction of information technologies and new information carriers, digitization, with which archives have many years of experience, and the use of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology, have been added to the extensive spectrum of archival professional issues," Dr. Klasinc.

Participants from thirty different countries attend the 16th International Autumn School 2022.
