Dr. Ludvik Toplak Receives Honorary Doctorate from the University of Mostar


“With pride and responsibility, I accept the honor bestowed upon me by the University of Mostar, and I commit to continuing the construction of bridges of knowledge and cooperation in the future,” said Prof. Dr. Sc. Ludvik Toplak, Rector of Alma Mater Europaea University, during today’s conferral of the honorary doctorate from the University of Mostar (Doctor Honoris Causa).

"Professor Toplak, as one of the most prominent intellectuals and leaders in the field of higher education, international cooperation, and social change, has left an indelible mark on the academic, scientific, cultural, and social life not only of Slovenia but also beyond," emphasized Rector Prof. Dr. Sc. Zoran Tomić, Rector of the University of Mostar (Sveučilište u Mostaru).

"The conferral of the honorary doctorate is not just a recognition for an individual but a reflection of all those with whom I have shared ideas, projects, and values throughout my career. I accept this recognition with great joy and pride, fully aware of its responsibility," said Prof. Dr. Sc. Ludvik Toplak, highlighting the importance of long-standing academic cooperation, which began decades ago and has continuously developed. "From the time of Rector Zdenko Kordić to the present, I have witnessed the transformation of the University of Mostar into an internationally recognized institution capable of competing in the global academic market. Your dedication to the development of education, science, and the arts, as well as to preserving Croatian national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is an example of how a university can become a scientific and cultural pillar of its community," he emphasized.

The expert committee, composed of Prof. Dr. Sc. Marino Milković, Academician Mladen Bevanda, Prof. Dr. Sc. Dragan Ljutić, Prof. Dr. Sc. Zoran Tomić, and Prof. Dr. Sc. Snežana Pehar, in conferring the honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) to Prof. Dr. Sc. Ludvik Toplak, wrote:

"Prof. Dr. Ludvik Toplak is not only an outstanding academic but also a visionary who has made an exceptional contribution to the development of science, education, and international cooperation throughout his career. His academic path includes studies at prestigious universities and scientific work in international law, ecology, human rights, and social economics. By signing the Declaration of Independence of Slovenia, he was a key figure in shaping modern Slovenian society.

As President and Rector of the Alma Mater Europaea University, he was an essential partner in developing new study programs, linking the University of Mostar with international institutions, and introducing innovative fields such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. His work elevated the University of Mostar on the global academic map.

Prof. Dr. Toplak encourages interdisciplinarity, research excellence, and introducing new technologies while remaining committed to dialogue, tolerance, and equality. His vision and dedication inspire shaping a sustainable and just society.

The University of Mostar, through its activities, has significantly contributed to the development of academic cooperation in the Central European region.
