Dr. Svebor Sečak Creates an Exceptional Ballet: The Snow Queen

The Dean of the Alma Mater Europaea Dance Academy and renowned choreographer, Dr. Svebor Sečak, has created an extraordinary ballet production, The Snow Queen, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's timeless fairy tale. Its world premiere captivated audiences at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Osijek in February 2024, followed by its Split debut at the HNK in November 2024.

This enchanting ballet, set to the music of contemporary Croatian composer Davor Bobić, combines neoclassical elements with modern approaches and innovative visual effects, positioning it among the finest contemporary ballet spectacles.

Reflecting on the creation process, Dr. Sečak emphasized how Bobić’s music immediately resonated with him due to its neoclassical approach and subtle connection to tradition. “I have always developed ballet in line with contemporary trends, combining classical, neoclassical, and modern influences. This creates a fresh perspective and vitality,” he explained.

A distinctive feature of the production is the captivating animations by Zdenko Bašić, which bring the story of The Snow Queen into the 21st century. The rapid transitions between scenes on stage and screen create a dynamic experience tailored to modern audiences. “Judging by the enthusiastic reactions of the audience, we have created a true masterpiece,” added Sečak.
