Education starts at birth

On Friday, 9 January 2015, Park Murska Sobota theatre hosted a round table entitled Education – preparing children for life. Alma Mater Europaea and Kindergarten Murska Sobota organised the event. The event coincided with the opening of the Advisory-therapeutic centre for families, couples, and individuals which works under MIPUP – International Psychotherapy and Applicable Psychology Institute.

The main guest of the round table was Vlasta Nussdorfer, human rights ombudsman who has met young offenders and their parents on many occasions in her rich career as an attorney. "Education does not start at the age of 16, it starts at birth," she emphasized. Others who attended the round table were Sebastjan Kristovič – MIPUP manager, Bernardka Marič – principal of Kindergarten Murska Sobota, Sonja Čerpnjak – principal of Elementary School III Murska Sobota, and Simona Neuvirt Bokan – head of the crisis centre for youth (SWC Murska Sobota).

After the event, Sebastjan Kristovič explained: "We are extremely pleased with the event. The topicality of themes and the selection of quality and competent guests is confirmed by the large attendance of the round table and by positive responses which we have been receiving in these days after the round table. The main purpose of the round table was to talk about problems in modern education from a comprehensive perspective – and this was the reason for choosing guests from different work areas. Each guest talked about the problems of modern permissive education from their own perspective and work environment. However, the main contribution was not only in warning and talking about problems in modern education, but in possible solutions for the enchanted circle of permissiveness. Guests particularly agreed on two items; that a different path can be taken, and that this different path is a return to the common "farmer's" sense. This means that we have to seriously start working on prevention."
