European Archaeologists in Rome Discuss Fishing in Prehistoric Communities

At the end of August, Professor Dr. Anja Hellmuth Kramberger attended the 30th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), which was held this year in Rome.

Professor Dr. Hellmuth Kramberger co-organized a panel titled Fish * Forms * Functions: The Importance and Societal Role of Aquatic Resources in Prehistoric Societies. Around 35 scientists from across Europe discussed the importance of fishing for prehistoric communities between Scandinavia and the Mediterranean over the past 10,000 years.

As part of the research group Research of Cultural Formations - ARIS P6-0278 (A), Anja Hellmuth Kramberger studied the development of prehistoric fishing techniques as an essential component of the culture of prehistoric communities along the Mediterranean coasts and the rivers and lakes of the continent.

The next EAA meeting will be held from September 3 to 6, 2025, in Belgrade, Serbia.
