Iza Gobar, a physiotherapy graduate at Alma Mater, became the World Massage Super Cup champion on November 12, 2023.
A qualified physiotherapist who has been successfully working in treatment and rehabilitation for more than ten years competed against 100 competitors from all continents at the world championship in Romania. "The competition was held in 6 categories. First, I won in the Swedish massage and then in the grand final, where the winners of individual categories competed. I performed a combination of therapeutic massage and classical massage techniques, which I also teach at Alma Mater," describes the world champion in therapeutic massage, Iza Gobar.
Iza Gobar already worked as an aerobics and Pilates instructor in high school. During her studies at Alma Mater, she studied with various therapists, supplemented her knowledge of lymphatic drainage manual treatment of the spine according to Dr. Breuss, and got acquainted with other complementary techniques, such as reflexotherapy, craniosacral therapy, aromatherapy, etc. "After completing my diploma and professional exam, I also acquired special knowledge in neurophysiotherapy, which opened up a completely new perspective on the functioning of the human body. As a physiotherapist, I gained work experience in various fields until I decided to go on my own in 2019," says Iza, who, in practice, successfully combines physiotherapy with the field of neuro physiotherapy, where she uses her method to treat people after damage to the central nervous system and the field of prevention.
"Essentially, success is measured by how many thousands of therapies you do, how you develop the feeling in your hands, and, above all, how much you love your work. I have no problem with this because it is my favorite hobby, profession, and mission in life. I have a solid support team without whom it would not be possible. I want to thank Alma Mater, who stands by me with professional help, premises, and the organization itself, as well as for helping to raise my Fiza therapy to a higher level. Thanks also to my mentor, Dejan Jelen, the only Slovenian judge in this field," says Iza gratefully.
"My constant desire to help others, after years of research and treatment of clients, led me to develop a unique universal technique, which I named Fiza massage. It is a therapeutic massage, where different massage techniques complement manual techniques and stretching. This is an elaborate, holistic approach to alleviating certain health problems, or rather, it is an effective means of relaxation and maintaining health simultaneously," explains. Iza Gobar actively cooperates with Alma Mater, where he teaches physiotherapy students the basics of massage techniques.
"I tell all the students during the exercises that massage is the basis of all manual techniques. You can't be a good physiotherapist without mastering massage," said the final world champion, who defended the title for the second time in a row; namely, in 2021, she won the world championship in massage in the freestyle category in Copenhagen, Denmark.
"We are very proud of Iza and her outstanding success, and we are always happy that she is passing on her rich knowledge to our students. We think passing on science to new generations and the latter to society is essential. With her knowledge, Iza helps many patients, from those with neurological problems to those with various injuries. Her successes are visible, not only in the form of a gold medal and a trophy but above all in the people she helps," said the general secretary of the Alma Mater, Dr. Barbara Toplak Perovič.
