Joint meeting of AMEU – ISH and the Slovene Association for Public Relations Lecture of dr. Damjana Pondelek on facing crisis situations

On the first Thursday in April, AMEU ISH (Postgraduate school of Humanities) together with the Slovene Association of Public Relations (PRSS) - area 01, organised a meeting in Ljubljana with dr. Damjana Pondelek on the topic of facing crisis situations, affairs and other difficult stories.

Dr. Damjana Pondelek received her PhD from the AMEU ISH in the year 2016, on the topic of Public Perception and treatment of carriers of social functions in crisis situation(under the mentorship of prof. dr. Mojca Ramšak and co-mentor, assist.prof.dr. Eva Klemenčič).

A number of people turned up at the event; the dean presented the activities of AMEU-ISH, while the president of PRSS, Tina Cipot presented the novelties and activities of the association. The participants were also greeted by the president of the Students Committee, Jerica Pavšič.

In continuation, dr Damjana Pondelek talked about the types of crisis situations and affairs. At the beginning, she explained differences between crisis situations – the latter being a response to certain situations. In addition to that, we know the term affair, where there are known and anonymous counterparts who wish to cause trouble to a certain individual through social pressing. The number of such or different affairs increases in particular in the pre-election campaign periods.

Dr. Damjana Pondelek has dealt with such crises and affairs for almost two decades now. She explained that (hard) or difficult stories cause different problems to the individual or the society as a whole. She emphasised that the majority of difficult stories happen within the unit, team or organisation. She also tried to bring closer the mechanisms that can currently be found the modern society, which she called “the court of public opinion”. She at the same time said that we are not alone in the world and it is right to ask for help when we need it and know how to receive it. She also suggested to foster relationships and friendships with the closest friends and family, as especially the latter are the ones who stay after, when we find our dignity, name ad good name attacked.
