Professor Marija Bogataj received her Math. She earned her diploma in 1974, her master’s degree in operations research in 1978, and her PhD in engineering sciences - spatial (urban) modelling - from the University of Ljubljana in 1983. Prof. Bogataj began her university career as a research and teaching assistant at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana in 1977, continued at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana, and a lecturer at the University of Maribor. In 1994, she was elected full professor of operations research and statistics at the University of Ljubljana, where she also lectured on Actuarial Mathematics (Health and Life Insurance), Location Theory and Supply Chain management and control. From 1993 to 1999, she was the Dean of the Faculty of Maritime and Transport. She is currently the Head of CERRISK at the INRISK Institute. She supervises some doctoral students and leads national projects, including the research groups of INRISK Institute, University of Ljubljana and Alma Mater Europaea. She has participated in numerous scientific committees in international, Spanish, Slovenian, Czech, and Croatian journals and proceedings. She has been a visiting professor at some universities in the EU for the past 30 years. She is the author, co-author or editor/co-editor of more than 50 books and the author or co-author of more than 200 articles, essays and working papers, over 60 of them published in highly ranked journals listed in WoS Core Collection. She has been a lead researcher and has participated extensively in more than 50 domestic and international research projects. As a highly cited scientist, Google Scholar ranks her first in the field of ageing studies worldwide.
