Summarized from the words of Professor Richard J. Overy:

Why War?

War has been an integral part of human history for millennia. Evolutionary and social sciences suggest that early humans used collective violence for survival and community expansion, eventually developing military cultures and states for more effective warfare organizations. The reasons for war range from the need for resources and power to the quest for security, which is also evident in modern conflicts such as the Russian war against Ukraine and Israeli clashes with Arab groups.

In the 21st century, war remains a global threat, with new challenges emerging, such as resource wars, cyber conflicts, and even battles in space. Despite technological advancements, the greatest danger remains the possibility of nuclear war, as humanity, in evolutionary terms, is not significantly different from its ancestors.
