The Alma Mater Europaea University has established the Lions Campus Club Alma Mater Europaea University. It is Slovenia's first and only academic Lions club, operating under the Lions Clubs International, the world's largest humanitarian organization.
On this special occasion, Lana Bratanič, a physiotherapy student at Alma Mater, took an oath as the club's president. She will lead the club with dedication, knowledge, and humanitarian passion: “We have many opportunities to create change in our community. We are aware of the responsibility we carry – not only towards our club but also towards those who need our help. Our mission, our motto – 'We Serve' – will guide us in every step we take. We proudly carry this with the conviction that together, as a team, we can achieve more. The future holds much work for us – from volunteer actions to fundraising and helping those in need. But we are confident that as a club, we will succeed because we recognize the power of collaboration, dedication, and mutual support. Together, we are stronger. And I look forward to shaping the future of our club and bringing about positive change in our community and beyond. Long live the Lions Campus Club of Alma Mater Europaea!"
The club currently brings together 32 members, both students and faculty members from the University of Alma Mater Europaea, who, at the initiative of Dr. Marko Vidnjevič, a long-time member of the Lions movement, have committed themselves to the humanitarian values and mission of Lions.
The founding ceremony of the club, Gala Charter Night, took place on April 6, 2025, at the Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the rector of the University of Alma Mater Europaea, Dr. Ludvik Toplak, and the guest of honor was the president of Lions Clubs International, Fabrício Oliveira.
In his speech, Rector Professor Dr. Ludvik Toplak emphasized the importance of uniting the university community with humanitarian values: "I would like to thank the support of the Slovenian district of Lions International in establishing the Lions Campus Club Alma Mater Europaea University. Our students prepare for careers where they help others – careers that members of Lions International often carry out voluntarily. This is helping those in need by Serving a world in need! The Lions Campus Club Alma Mater Europaea University will connect and operate by Lions principles at home and globally, spreading the culture of Lionism in line with the philosophy of Alma Mater University."
On this occasion, the rector also presented the initiative 'Physiotherapists Without Borders,' a project co-created by the university's students to provide selfless help to the world's most vulnerable communities. He also announced the signing of the 'Vision of Global Peace Offensive' document, which, in collaboration with the World Academy of Arts and Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, has been supported by numerous elite scientists and experts to promote peace, solidarity, and preventing evil in today's world.
President of Lions Clubs International, Fabrício Oliveira, expressed his sincere congratulations and welcome to the new members: "It is with great joy that I welcome the establishment of the Lions Campus Club of Alma Mater Europaea. Your decision to join the movement as a young intellectual and future professional based on serving the community is of great importance for the future of our society. Your energy, empathy, and knowledge will be key to building a more compassionate and just world. Welcome to the Lions family. I am proud you are with us!"
Establishing the Lions Campus Club Alma Mater Europaea University marks a significant milestone for Slovenia's Lions movement and the academic community. Combining knowledge, youth, and a humanitarian spirit opens a new chapter of collaboration, solidarity, and global responsibility.
Congratulations to all members. May you be guided by heart, knowledge, and courage for the benefit of all!
