Alma Mater students visited Murska Sobota II Primary School, pupils. By demonstrating the most necessary measures for providing first aid, they showed young people how to act in the event of an accident.
Providing first aid includes the first, temporary, quick, and correct measures for the injured person. "With this, we save lives and prevent the deterioration of the health condition until the arrival of the professional emergency medical service, where quick response and correct execution are of the greatest importance," said the students in the introduction and reminded the children of the most urgent procedures to take. "We must first check and ensure our and the victim's safety. Then check the victim's response; in case of unresponsiveness, we must first release the airway. If the victim is not breathing, first call 112, and only then start resuscitation," emphasized student Žiga. He added that we continued with a pulse check and the start of the cardiac massage procedure.
The students responded with great interest. They tried their hand at a practical example of heart massage on a mannequin and asked the students many curious questions. "Children must learn the basics of first aid as soon as possible because they can very quickly find themselves in the circumstances of an accident, and it is good that they are familiar with this type of information. An accident never rests, and we may be the ones who save someone's life," warned the head of the Nursing study program at Alma Mater Europaea mag. Edvard Jakšič.
The students also introduced the proper use of a defibrillator. "In Slovenia, about ten people experience cardiac arrest every day, and almost half die. We must react quickly and collectedly in such cases," the students conclude.
