Walk with a heart for David

At Alma Mater, we are very proud of our future physiotherapists. As part of the Physiotherapists without Borders project, they again showed their heart with a spirited hike to the Pohorje mountain range to the Luka hut - A walk with a heart for the boy David.

Last weekend, the physiotherapy students at Alma Mater Europaea - ECM carried out a charity walk to the Pohorje Mountains: "The walk had a heartfelt purpose, as we allocated the collected proceeds to cover the costs of neuro physiotherapy for six-year-old David from

Velika Polana, whom we want to give him a path to independence." said Lana Ritlop, head of Physiotherapists without Borders.

David was born three months early. Only a few months after his birth, he underwent heart surgery at the University Clinical Center in Ljubljana, where he was diagnosed with fourth-degree cerebral palsy. He met his first therapist at the age of six months. "David made excellent progress with the therapies, which enabled him to crawl on all fours and stand up with support. Every progress meant great joy for the whole family. Two years ago, the doctor suggested SDR surgery. It is a selective dorsal rhizotomy, which allows for alleviating leg spasticity. After the operation, David is progressing very slowly: "The effects of the operation will be visible with the help of physiotherapy, at least four to five times a week," Ritlopova explains, adding that the students decided to help the family collect some financial resources that will at least make their daily challenges a little easier.

"Sincere thanks to everyone who decided to support the first charity event. We gathered almost 200 participants, which indicates a special connection and solidarity. The money collected will go to David's family, who, in addition to self-paying neuro physiotherapy, also urgently need an elevator. Such investments represent a significant financial burden, and we were honored to be able to help at least a little with our event. We want David to achieve the highest possible level of independence, which he deserves, and to develop all his talents, which he has a lot of, gratefully concludes Lana, adding that they will continue with such forms of assistance in the future.
