On World Multiple Sclerosis Day (May 25), our physiotherapy students provided information on physiotherapy treatment for patients with multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis is the most prevalent chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, affecting more than 2 million people worldwide. It occurs due to an excessive immune response against the central nervous system's cells, which is influenced by genetic and environmental factors.
Physiotherapy is vital in non-pharmacological treatment because patients with multiple sclerosis lose mobility. Physiotherapy can affect spasticity and spasms, balance, weakness, and fatigue. It improves functional independence and has a beneficial effect on depression, social interactions, and quality of life in general.
The Multiple Sclerosis Association of Slovenia is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
