Discovering Ayurveda and Transcendental Meditation

Alma Mater Europaea University in Maribor hosted its traditional open day for Ayurveda.

The event aimed to deepen the understanding of Ayurveda and explore its numerous benefits. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the basics of Ayurveda, its origins, and its many benefits for mental and physical health.

The study of Ayurveda at Alma Mater Europaea University is offered in two formats:

1. Master's Program: At the master's level, you can choose the Ayurveda-Integrative Health Sciences track within the accredited Health Sciences program. More information about this program can be found here.

2. Professional Training: This option consists of two semesters and culminates in a certificate with 55 ECTS credits, but without a diploma. Details about this training can be found here.

"Ayurveda, based on traditional Indian medicine, is now recognized worldwide. It offers programs at many universities around the globe, allowing doctors and those who wish to improve their health using natural healing methods to gain new knowledge. This knowledge enables them to align with nature and its cycles, improving the quality of life on all levels. It is important to emphasize that Ayurveda is not an alternative medicine but a severe and recognized medical system that has long been recommended by the World Health Organization, just like many other traditional medicine methods fully compatible with Western medicine. Engaging with Ayurveda does not mean we must abandon Western medicine. On the contrary, knowing both Western and Ayurvedic medicine allows us in today's stress-filled world to help ourselves by combining the best elements of both approaches, aligning with nature, and improving our health," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gordana Marković, MD, presented the basics of Ayurveda, its origins, and its benefits. She also demonstrated how an Ayurveda expert can read a person's pulse and what Ayurvedic recommendations are for restoring a complete balance of mental and physical health.

Senior Lecturer Mag. Tomaž Klojčnik explained how it is possible to live without stress, in joy, and a state of personal fulfillment. He clarified what good meditation is and why transcendental meditation is practiced by half the world: "Regular practice of transcendental meditation allows us to maintain peace even in the active parts of our lives. This helps us experience life more fully, reduces tension, and prepares us for a fulfilled and joyful life. We practice the meditation technique twice daily for 10 to 20 minutes. Through Transcendental Meditation, we achieve peace and focus, as confirmed by numerous studies. The technique affects our level of consciousness and broadens our awareness. In this broader awareness, we can recognize moments of worry or tension and replace them with a calm and focused approach. By being present in the moment, we can better handle the challenges and tasks that come our way."

After the lectures, participants could attend free consultations by Ayurveda students at Alma Mater Europaea University.

The event was an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in Ayurveda. "Participants learned about the principles and benefits of Ayurveda and received professional advice to improve their health and well-being," concluded Mag. Klojčnik.
