Extending student status due to exceptional conditions

Students, who were unable to complete study obligations for advancement or completion due to exceptional circumstances in 2020, which directly affected their study obligations in the academic year 2019/2020 and extraordinary circumstances caused by COVID 19, are entitled to extended student status in the 2020/21 academic year due to exceptional conditions.

Justified reasons for not completing study obligations due to exceptional conditions:

  • student's health issues - proof: a numbered medical certificate issued by a doctor, with a description of the disease and exact period of treatment, or a disease description issued by a specialist or a hospital discharge certificate. The exact date of absence must be stated on the medical certificate. During the absence, the student

  • did not perform any exams and other study obligations, which is evident from the official records of VIS;

  • performing urgent additional work, especially in the field of health care - proof: a certificate from the employer or organization, which demonstrates the field of work and work obligations expressed in hours;

  • other circumstances due to which the student was not able to perform the study obligations appropriate proof must be attached, which shows the inability to perform the study obligations.

Any uncompleted study obligations by Alma Mater are not a reason for renewal of status due to exceptional circumstances, as these obligations will not condition the enrolment in a higher year.

Students who do not meet the conditions for progression to a higher year in the academic year 2019/2020 or do not complete their studies will be able to exercise the right to extended student status due to exceptional circumstances in the study year 2020/2021.

Students who are enrolled in the academic year 2019/20 will have the right to extend the student status (regardless the type of enrolment – for example enrolled in an individual year, re-enrolled, enrolled in an additional year, students with extended status for justified reasons).

Foreign students have the right to extend the student status in the academic year 2020/2021 due to the occurrence of exceptional circumstances (epidemics) may also be exercised due to exceptional conditions.

The student must provide the official proof of the substantiated reasons he / she is asserting. The Committee for Student Affairs is hold responsible for interpretation and criteria of reasons listed above. A student with justified reasons for not completing the study obligations must therefore submit the application for extension of student status to The Committee for Student Affairs. A student submits the application via VIS, by selecting the “Applications” tab in the left menu, then selects the appropriate “Application at enrolment - student status extention due to exceptional conditions” and fills it out. The application has to be printed out, signed and forwarded, together with appropriate evidence, to Alma Mater, Slovenska ulica 17, 2000 Maribor. The completed application can be edited in VIS by until it is accepted by the Student Office.

A student who will be granted an extension of student status due to exceptional circumstances should consider the following: After the decision of The Committee for Student Affairs, the enrolment paper will be available on VIS portal where you conduct the enrolment. Enter VIS via the website https://vis.esmb.si/prijava.htm with a personal password.
