RECOGNITION OF PREVIOUS EDUCATION / TRANSFER OF CREDITS

RECOGNITION OF FORMALLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

After enrolling in a study program, a student may submit a request for the recognition of already completed study obligations, whether completed at Alma Mater or other higher education institutions.

To do this, the student must complete the digital form "Request for Recognition of Study Obligations" and attach the following mandatory documents:

  • Certificate of passed exams (scanned original required),
  • Course syllabi (detailed program descriptions) for the subjects you wish to have recognized,
  • Proof of payment for processing the request according to the Alma Mater Europaea price list (optional).

We recommend that you photograph or scan the required attachments before filling out the application form and save them to your computer.

Preliminary Recognition (Before Enrollment)

Candidates who wish to obtain a decision from the Academic Affairs Committee on exam recognition before enrollment must also attach proof of payment for the processing fee in accordance with the valid Alma Mater Europaea price list, unless the exams were taken at Alma Mater.

If the candidate proceeds with enrollment in the study program, the amount already paid is deducted from the first tuition installment. Payment information is available here.

Deadline for Submission

The Academic Affairs Committee will only review complete applications submitted by November 15 of the current academic year. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.

Please list in your request all subjects you wish to have recognized for the entire study period, regardless of which year you are currently enrolled in.
A new request can only be submitted if you acquire a new formal qualification during your studies.

The Academic Affairs Committee reviews student applications in accordance with the approved annual timetable for the respective academic year.

You will be informed of the Committee's decision in writing via email to the address provided in your application.

Tuition Fee Reduction Due to Recognized Obligations

Based on the decision on recognition, a student may apply for a reduction of tuition fees for the current academic year:

  • 30% reduction if 20–30 ECTS are recognized in a given academic year,
  • 50% reduction if 31–40 ECTS are recognized in a given academic year.

The reduction applies only to fully recognized study obligations.

The request for tuition reduction must include a copy of the recognition decision and must be submitted no later than 8 days after receiving the decision. Requests submitted after this period will not be accepted.

Criteria for Recognition

The Academic Affairs Committee will consider formally acquired knowledge, skills, and competences that are, in content and level of difficulty, fully or partially equivalent to the general or subject-specific competences of the respective study program.

Recognition is conducted in accordance with:

  • the Higher Education Act, and
  • the Criteria for Transferring Between Study Programs.

The main criterion for recognition is the comparability of content, scope, and level of difficulty of the previously completed obligations with those in the Alma Mater study program.
